Undercover Systems
is a family-owned business that manufactures and installs its own patented under-deck system as well as screened-in porches and ceiling fans on its product. In the mid-1990s, president Tom Stevens patented his creation—a ceiling system supported by gutters—and started serving customers in Atlanta. "The product I invented was better than anything else on the market," he says. "We initially just did small jobs here and there, but when the phone kept ringing, we expanded." Tom's wife and three children work in the business, an operation comprised of 15 employees. "We have very little turnover," he says. "The average technician has been with me for eight years." Most installations are completed in one day. Lead times, from the contract signing to installation, are typically three weeks. Undercover Systems requires a $2,000 minimum for each project and carries both liability and workers' compensation insurance. Tom learned the value of work as a child, and he carries this attitude on to his customers. "I grew up the hard way. If I wanted something, I had to work for it," he says. "We work tirelessly to give our customers the satisfaction and attention they deserve."
