Making a buying decision
Home Reports is intended
to be one of many tools homeowners should
use when making a buying decision. In addition
to extensive research, you should depend on your
own good judgment. (See
Home Reports disclaimer.)
Home Reports recommends that you:
- Contact multiple references.
Be wary if you have trouble locating references,
or if the company only provides a small
number of references. Also, keep in
mind that company-generated reference
lists often include hand-selected happy
customers. Even very poor-quality companies
can have some satisfied customers.
- Learn about the company's reputation
by talking with neighbors and friends.
- Research the company's license status
with state and local agencies.
- Contact
insuring companies to verify the current
status of both a contractor's workers'
compensation and liability insurance. Insurance
policies can be cancelled. The fact that
a company had insurance at the time we conducted
our research does not ensure it will have
insurance in the future. Click here

the information in our Additional Consumer
Tips section.
